Robert Ruiz Jr. – Messages of Hope

Today, AuthorHouse presents the conclusion of our interview with Robert Ruiz Jr. His self-published Destiny’s Journey was a category finalist at this year’s Eric Hoffer Book Awards!

You can find the first part of our interview in the Author Blogs section.

Robert, what inspired you to write your book? How long did it take you to finish it?

Destiny's JourneyI was inspired to write Destiny’s Journey by my experiences working with young people who were multiply disabled, and those who were social outcasts running the streets in vicious gangs. Easter Seals Rio Grande Valley and Reach Out Ministries provided me with an opportunity to grow and gain insight into the influences in our society—influences which do not perpetuate messages of hope, love and kindness. Many of the messages convey violence as a method of resolving problems, particularly those found in video games, movies and television.

Approximately five years were spent developing, editing and publishing this book. My company, family and community involvements limited the time that I could spend writing.

What’s the one message you’d like to convey to readers through your book?

It’s important to the welfare of the human race to set aside our egos, self-centeredness and critical spirits and to replace these with love, joy, peace, kindness, gentleness, meekness and self-control. Faith and hope are built around these values. All of these values and behaviors are reflected through the characters and challenges found in Destiny’s Journey.

What advice would you give to the other aspiring authors out there?

Never give-up your dream and goal to write a book that carries your positive, uplifting message to others.

What are you working on next?

I’m looking at the possibility of writing a sequel to Destiny’s Journey, but have no timeline yet for this project.

Are there any events or promotions planned for your book?

Yes, but they will not be put into full swing until the screenplay [for Destiny’s Journey] is completed and marketed.
