Dr. Monica Hawkins – Writing Until You Can’t Write Anymore

This week, we conclude our interview with Monica Hawkins (Ph.D., M.P.H.), the self-published author of  Raising Boys Into Extraordinary Young Men and her latest book  Raising Girls Into Extraordinary Young Women.

You can read the previous parts of this interview here: Part One | Part Two

Dr. Hawkins, what was your favorite part of the self-publishing experience?

Dr. Monica Hawkins

My favorite part was the end. Knowing that everything came together after all my hard work. Seeing both of my books in print for the first time was exciting. Having my son’s picture as a young boy on the front cover of my first book and his baby picture on the back cover is very special to me. AuthorHouse did such a fantastic job designing both of my books.

What advice would you give to other aspiring authors?

If there is a subject that you are passionate about, just start writing about it. Continue writing about that subject until you can’t write anymore! Don’t give up until you have a finished product, and share your finished product with another person who will give you their honest opinion about it.

What are you working on next?

Since I just finished my newest book, Raising Girls Into Extraordinary Young Women, I have no definite plans at this time. Whatever I decide to write about next, the topic will be about an issue that is inspirational to others.

Are there any events or promotions planned for your books?

Recently, I was interviewed on the Sisters4Fitness Wellness Show discussing my books, as well as parenting techniques that can help parents raise successful sons and daughters [you can watch that interview here]. I was also interviewed on the WTOP radio station about my first book, Raising Boys Into Extraordinary Young Men. I plan to market both of my books using my radio and YouTube interviews.
